Group Yoga Classes
Since Yoga out of Doors is a community of yoga teachers and practitioners, we respect all different types of yoga and our classes are always evolving! As we grow together, check back for updates on new classes.
All classes are donation based, with 100% of proceeds going to fund cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Listed below are our current types of group yoga classes:
This class is a gentle healing session appropriate for all ages, where we move the body through classical poses very slowly and consciously. Rests are taken between poses as the body moves towards inner introspection in preparation for meditation. This class is especially beneficial for those who have had previous illnesses or injuries, are looking for pre-natal yoga, or a gentle introduction to the practice.
Dharma I (Beginner)
Dharma I - a powerful yogi practice, that starts with Surya Namaskar Vinyasa to warm up the body in order to improve muscle and joint flexibility, followed by energetic asanas, which concentrate on proper alignment and breathing. The class will be concluded by guided deep relaxation and meditation. Dharma I will leave you with a sense of well-being and peacefulness!
Open Vinyasa Class
An invigorating and dynamic class, where poses are connected together by synchronizing movement and breath, creating a dance-like flow. Open Vinyasa includes sun salutations, standing poses, back bends, forward bends, twists and inversions, with deep relaxation and meditation at the end. Personal modifications continue to be incorporated and emphasized, while more challenging poses are introduced. This practice keeps you present, mindful, and instills confidence while you move.
This class is appropriate for all levels of students.
Morning Express Open Vinyasa
Get up and hit the mat! Wake up your body and mind by greeting the sun together through Vinyasa Flow. This class focuses on back bends and shoulder openers to release tension, increase circulation, and will leave you with an open heart. You will feel energized through the rest of your day while feeling more productive and creative. Start your day off right!
Weather permitting, this class is usually conducted outside under the open sky.
Evening Open Vinyasa Flow
Feeling tired, stressed? An evening Vinyasa Flow will help you relax and unwind after a long day. This class focuses on twists, forward bends, and grounding lying-down asanas to reduce stress and cultivate a peaceful state of mind. Yoga after the sun goes down is especially effective in battling insomnia. Nourish yourself with this sweet, restorative practice!
Each class ends with deep relaxation and meditation. Meditation creates an inner space and clarity that allows us to control our mind. When our distracting thoughts subside, our mind becomes still, and a deep happiness emerges from within...
